Patent translation

The main purpose of a patent is to protect an invention, avoiding that competitors can reproduce it and exploit it for a certain time without the patent’s owner consent. Patents have a great value from both a legal and an economical point of view.

Patent translation is constrained by the source text and it must reproduce it the most faithfully, not to risk to alter contents and the juridical extent of the granted protection.

My specializations

Patents are characterized by a language formed by technical language, juridical and bureaucratic language, together with highly field-specific terms and rigid and precise sentences.

Patents translator then must have a deep knowledge of the patent subject matter and of its relative terminology.

Relying on my chemical knowledge and on professional experiences in this field, I can offer an accurate and correct patents translation in these fields:

  • Chemistry and materials (particularly plastics, paper, steel)
  • Industrial processes
  • Pharmaceutical field
  • Medical field (particularly oncology, cardiology, autoimmune diseases, medical devices)
  • Cosmetics
  • Biotechnology

Moreover, during translation I’m able to recognize any mistakes, which are often found in these texts, and to signal them to the customer and correct them as needed.

Even if in patent translation the CAT tools are rarely used, I use them in this kind of texts too, so that I can keep a very high terminology uniformity.

I currently translate 4-6 patents (of average length – about 8-10 k words each) each month in these fields.
